the best for practical design
By Neville
This is one of the only books in my University which I have found to be of any use for design of amplifiers. The details Mr Gerald has given shows that he himself has worked with the problems in amplifier design as he has also given the probable values to use while designing. Example Table 5.5 of the Possibles. After trying for 3 years with unsuccesful design I find this book and my design is complete in a few minutes. Not only does this book give the probable values for good design but with it you can calculate the different parameters like gain, input res., output res., Miller cap., f (alpha). Really cool. This book is really worth it. And lastly the book speaks to you which shows the passion of the author.

Teaches you design, not analysis
By Blackeneth
Other circuit text books teach circuit *analysis*, whereas this one teaches you circuit *design* - specifically with bipolar junction transistors. If you want to be able to design your own BJT amplifiers, this is the book for you. Given a set of performance characteristics for your desired amplifier, and the datasheet of the BJTs, this book will help you figure out the circuit topology AND the values of the biasing resistors. If you're an electrical engineer and are looking for a book to help you design amplifiers (say, as a hobby), this is the book for you.
The only thing that will drive you a little nuts is, that, apparently when it was written in the early 1970's, the convention was that "current" was defined as a flow of negative (-) charges. The convention now is that "current" is defined as a flow of positive (+) charges. Doesn't affect the circuits, of course - just takes some getting used to if you're used to analysis where current is the flow of positive charge.

not for beginners
By A.Reader1
This book is for anyone who is in the business of designing practical amplifiers using BJTs. The amount of detail is impressive especially the various tables of possible values. Having said that, be aware this book goes into great detail on transistor design and so you should have an excellent grasp of the fundamentals of p-n junctions and transistors before you start.
