About the Author
Eleanor Beresford was born in remote South Australia, spent some adult years in the UK, and is settled in beautiful Adelaide with her even more beautiful wife and toddler son. In a former life she was a harried academic librarian. Now, her days are spent writing, game designing, and travelling her beloved city with her little boy. She would not change her life for anyone else's in the world. She has a sizeable collection of girls' school stories ranging from the turn of the century to the 1960s. She writes LGBT fantasy and young adult books, and interactive fiction games with strong female protagonists, because she writes the stories she would have loved to have read as a lesbian teenager.

This was an absolute delight to read

I have to confess I am not big on young adult literature nowadays, but I will give a chance to anything that looks orginal, with massive extra points for queer ladies. I have never written a review on Amazon before, but I do now in hopes that this will reach Mrs. Beresford. This was an absolute delight to read. It took me back to the days when I read all the Blyton books I inherited from my mom. They have that same charming, sweet taste of adventure to them, that you can only find in a very particular genre of girls-coming-of-age-at-school books, but these have the plus of the lesbian protagonist I could never find in my novels when I was a kid. So thank you for this wonderful series, I can't wait to keep on reading.

Great beginning!

I can't wait to read the rest of this series. I love the individual voices each of these characters are given. Diana is a wonderful detestable character. I do love a well written "villain". The supporting cast are amusing and clever. I especially loved Esther. This is a fun series to read and I Ioathe having to wait until March for the second installment. I'm looking forward to seeing how the author expands this world. I feel this author has a wealth of stories for this world and these heroines. Hopefully we can get more than three books. Nudge nudge wink wink. I'd love to read more.

an excellent series

I avoided this series for a while, wrongly dismissing it in my mind as likely another poor Harry Potter knockoff. Upon reading, however, I was delighted to find that while there are some similarities this series takes place in a original and well considered fantasy world, and the characters are compelling and engaging. It is very skillfully written, engrossing, and evocative. I truly hope the author embarks on filling out this world with many more novels, and that more readers discover this series, which deserves far more attention than I had originally surmised. Five stars.
