Beware of Paperback Edition

Beware of the paperback 1973 edition. It is an abridged version of the 1967 Hardcover edition.
It is still of interest to me, but I thought I was buying the book I had read in 1967.

A great book--condensed by excessive abridgement into irrelevance.

Nowhere in the description does it say this is not a paperback version of the original. The 476 page length compares tellingly with the the hardcover version. It ain't just shorter by nearly two thirds, it's also far less interesting.
Years ago I got suckered into buying this--what I thought was a book I remembered well (but had never owned). I was astounded to discover that the discarded parts were the most exciting chapters in the original. That book was such a page turner I remember being saddened to reach it's 1164 page end. What a difference a deficit of 688 pages makes.
