Geeky hero meets curvy, self-assured woman

I loved this book for two reasons. First, the hero was a software engineer who was kind of backward socially. He kept doing and saying the wrong thing to the heroine and was kind of oblivious as to what he was doing wrong, which was very endearing. Second, the heroine was plus-sized but instead of having a poor self-image and suffering from a lack of self-esteem as is common in romance when a heroine is a larger size, she was very well-adjusted, socially adept, had an active dating life, and didn't waste time wringing her hands over things. She wore bold clothes, loved to shop, and was girly, yet self-sufficient. I found her to be a refreshing change of pace. The story had a good balance of intensity versus lighter moments, and I had a hard time putting it down. I also loved the setting and since I live in the SF Bay Area, I can say that it was very realistic, right down to the atmosphere at the internet company where they worked. All in all a very enjoyable read.

Enjoyable, fun book

This book was cute, fun and a quick read. Rose and Mark were both very likeable characters. It was nice to see Liam and Bev again from "Love Handles", but you definitely do not need to have read that book to enjoy this one. I have really enjoyed everything I have read so far from this Gretchen Galway (though my favorite so far is "The Supermodel's Best Friend"). If you are looking for a light-hearted contemporary romance, you can't go wrong with this book-- enjoyable characters and story, good writing, and a great price.

Instantly adored this book!

After reading a lot of paranormal and other genres I like to switch it up with a few light funny romances, and I hit a home run with Gretchen Galway! I was fortunate to come across it when it was free, though I would have gladly paid full price for this little piece of gold!

I was caught up from the very beginning. I instantly developed a girl crush on Rose; our busty main lady! She has every quality that you wish you possessed, or at least made you wish you had a friend just like her. Confidence, sense of humor, loyalty, etc. She never took herself too seriously and she was often blas� about her effect on men. She knew she had it but it didn't rule her interaction with others. She was still very sweet and full of substance.

The male lead, Mark, was just so adorable... and awkward! Awkwardly adorable! What he lacked in social grace he made up for in heat. Yeah, he was a hot computer nerd/ child genius who knew how to work it in the bed room. Lol. Don't we all want one of our very own?

Their romance was not rushed, but was not stagnant. In other words it felt like it happened in "real life" (whatever that is...) time. It was believable in that it wasn't instant attraction. There was enough conflict to give this book some real substance, laced with heart warming, and heart breaking moments. Gretchen Galway has a knack for balancing the comedy with the romance and trouble. Each of her characters are equally balanced with flaws and redeeming qualities. Something I admire greatly in an author. I may read fiction but I like the characters to be "human".

I usually like to leave one critique but in all honesty... I can't think of a one :)

I'd like to note that the cover is what first attracted me to the book. I was tired of half naked bodies and mournful/gothic looking teens. *gasp*
Also, I bought another title of hers (The Supermodel's Best Friend) right away, already finished it, and plan on buying another after posting this review. Lol.

Now I'm ready to start!

As someone who is going to launch business consulting startup in the coming months, I feel a sound knowledge of project management is a necessity. As I did not have prior knowledge of this, starting from the scratch was the only option. And time was a factor as well – doing an online course, for example, would’ve taken not less than four months, committing which was not feasible. So the only option for me was to search for a good guide for beginners. Thankfully, browsing through kindle books on the subject helped me find this book rather quickly. Every phase and tool of project management has been explained meticulously, and two of the project methodologies – waterfall and agile – has been discussed in depth. It’s great to know that the other ones will be expounded in a follow-up publication. I’m also eagerly waiting for the next volume as well.

As Project Manager for the past 30 years and now retired, I downloaded this Guide to see if it contained the crucial concepts and practical tips a beginner in the business would find useful. Lo and behold, it did! The Guide is well-written. Most importantly, it takes the beginner through the concepts and practicalities of in-the-trench Project Management. All of the major features of what a Project Manager does on a daily basis are lined out in an easily accessible format including what to look out for in terms of the pitfalls and problems associated with project execution. All in all, a very good read and chock full of good information for the beginner Project Manager.

Excellent! Excellent

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! - It was straight to the point. Based on Biblical writings. I think lesson 2 was the most difficult. My husband and I read the book before introducing the lessons to familiarize our selves with the questions.
As a family we have family devotions daily, so I think that helped a lot. The children are used to open discussions with us after Bible reading. The book brought out a lot of questions. It also opened up the opportunity to speak about rape, inappropriate touch, sex under the covering of marriage and purity.
To be honest we had the delayed the talk for our 13 year old and I think now it was wrong. We should have done this, as it is recommended by the book - start age 6 and go from there. See how much your child knows already.
We monitor everything our children watch and read - and we were surprised just how much they perceive from commercials, magazines at the grocery store stands, friends and cousins.
We did the Talk with our 6,8,11 and 13 year old children. The 6 year old had no difficulty understanding that this is part of God's plan for us.
I think it was more difficult for our 8 year old, she was very upset and said "there is no way you should expect any grandchildren from me! no way!" - we allowed each of our children expressed their opinions, emotions and ask as many questions as they wanted. We took our time with each lesson and even divided them in to two sections.
( By the end of the third lesson, where we explained the beauty, love, joy and God's blessing with scripture our 8 year old had changed her mind about not getting married and having children - she said maybe she would get married after all.)
Our 11 year old and 13 year old just kept saying that it was disgusting and such, but as the lessons progress and they see the beauty of God's plan and creation they were thankful to God for his plan.

We had searched and researched the topic, and how to approach it - read books and articles - but not other book compares to this one. This is the one we chose to introduce our children to the 'Talk' and could not be more content with the results.

Great tool for parents!

I found that having The Talk as a tool was very helpful to me in talking with our daughters about sex and God’s plan for it. The lessons took only about 20 minutes each, depending on the discussion time and I love how Luke uses so much Scripture to back up the points of each lesson. It was comforting to my awkwardness to have a script to guide us through the main points, and I also appreciated that the illustrations and explanations were as discreet as possible while staying true to the clinical definitions. Highly recommend this parent resource.

The Talk is exactly what I needed to help me guide my children through a biblical discussion of sexuality. It's clearly written with enough detail, yet beautiful in it's simplicity. The Talk clearly defines sex through God's lens using excellent scripture references and discussion questions. It's a must have for any parent.

Each chapter ends with problems, and hints to selected problems are provided at the end of the book. The mathematical treatments are suitable for graduates in physics, and more sophisticated mathematical ideas are developed in the text and appendices.

workout with the Standard Model lagrangian

This book is about the experimental facts and the theoretical principles that lead to the construction of the Standard Model lagrangian. It is NOT about calculating scattering crossections. Some of the problems ask you to calculate decay rates but only at tree level and the fields are treated like classical fields not operators, with the exception that the fermionic fields anticommute. There is a 12-page chapter on quantizing the fields and renormalization but I find it rather sketchy so don't expect to understand a lot from it if you don't already know it.

You should have some background in varying lagrangians otherwise the book will frequently seem difficult to you. The authors obtain symmetry currents corresponding to a symmetry of the lagrangian not in the standard way of Noether's theorem. Their method is entirely correct but it took me long time to understand because they didn't explain it with enough details the first time they used it (section 7.1, page 65). I think that will throw off the horse many readers.

The style is wonderfully concise which makes the logical structure easier to follow and there isn't the usual fluff `to motivate' things that are simply put guesses like the principle of local gauge invariance. On the other hand, some places definitely need more detailed explanations like signs of certain quantities or the symmetry currents I mentioned above.

The treatment of the Dirac equation and spinors is the least messy I've seen. The way they obtain the nonrelativistic limit of the Dirac equation with EM field is again the best and least messy I've seen.

The book has nice appendix on the groups of the Standard Model which covers what you need to know about SO(3), SU(2) and SU(3) in a very efficient way. There are about 5 problems after each chapter most of which have a solution outline at the end of the book.

Things I understood from this book:

-- why time reversal, space inversion and charge conjugation of fields are defined in a way that previously seemed to me quite arbitrary

-- how demanding local gauge invariance necessitates introduction of gauge fields which leads to interaction terms

-- how local gauge invariance can't be proven, it's just a guess that has worked so far hence it's called `principle' (my own interpretation)

-- global and local symmetry breaking, Goldstone bosons and Higgs boson

-- how the Lagrangian densities of the electroweak and strong interactions were constructed from the experimental input by demanding local gauge invariance and guessing the symmetry group to be SU(2) and SU(3) correspondingly

-- what's Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix that mixes the quark fields and how it arises

-- how symmetries of the lagrangian density lead to conservation numbers

-- how neglecting some terms in the lagrangian leads to effective lagrangian and effective theory

-- how to work with the terms in the QCD lagrangian where different matrices multiply different indices

Kindle version is unacceptable due to missing symbols in formulas

This book is good, but I must complain about the typos that are in many formulas in the Kindle edition. I'm assuming that the real book doesn't have this issue. Many places the del operator is not there. Particularly, chapter 4 has all del operators missing. This chapter is on electromagnetic field theory which I understand well, and so can recognize the mistakes. The problem is that the other chapters I'm trying to learn and I can't be sure where the formulas are wrong yet. There are clear places where there are white spaces indicating a missing symbol, which I assume should be the del operator again, but I can't be sure.

I've reached a point where I'm fed up with paying almost full price for digital edition of books and getting an unacceptiable number of typos in formulas, or poorly formated formulas that are difficult to interpret. Since I get these books to learn, I can't tolerate being misinformed by the book I'm trying to learn from.

Excellent Introduction to Particle Physics

This book is an excellent introduction to particle physics. The chapters are short, clear and very readable. As the previous reviewer mentioned, there are a series of reasonable exercises at the end of each chapter with answers provided in the back of the book. Many concepts that field theory or particle physics books leave mysterious or have a difficult time explaining are clearly laid out in this book. I would judge it superior to Griffiths particle physics book, and if you are looking for a nice supplement to serious study of quantum field theory, this is it.

It Includes many animations that deal with three-dimensional concepts (in crystal chemistry and crystallography) and which are difficult to visualize from a book illustration, as well as brief text pages for 104 of the most common minerals, with links to crystal structure illustrations, compositional and assemblage diagrams, stability and phase diagrams, solid solution mechanism, and so on. It has an "Autorun" feature for the PC platform; an efficient print function was added, and all animations were made compatible with Quick Time version 4.0. Furthermore, audio explanations by the author were added to about 50 screens to aid the user's understanding of the presentations and/or animations. This is a good book. I would consider it more of an overview or survey of the entire field. It could use a little more depth on certain topics because it feels like some discussions end too abruptly.
